Large Quartz, Crystal for Sale
Quartz · SiO2Mohs 7Trigonal
A large quartz crystal for sale is only as good as its label and its photo, so every quartz here comes with both: the variety and locality on the label, and a daylight photo of the exact piece. Size and weight are measured at drop.

Quartz clusters and quartz points
Quartz clusters and quartz points are the two shapes in this collection. A cluster is a crowd of crystals that grew side by side on one base. A point is a single crystal, often broken free of a cluster, with a six-sided prism and a pointed tip.
A clear quartz cluster or point shows the crystal shape best. Read up on clear quartz and milky quartz, the same mineral clouded by tiny pockets of fluid.
Quartz pieces in this collection
The quartz pieces in this collection come from the first drop, and each is one of one:
- Milky Quartz Cluster, San Juan County, Colorado: stubby white points.
- Elestial Smoky Quartz, Minas Gerais, Brazil: smoky crystals grown in etched, stacked layers.
- Cactus Quartz, South Africa: amethyst points coated in tiny crystals.
- Lepidocrocite Crystal Points, Brazil, Madagascar, Spain and India: red iron flecks inside.
- Smoky Quartz Cluster: dark brown points, locality on the label at drop.
Smoky quartz clusters and points
Smoky quartz clusters and points get their brown from natural radiation acting on traces of aluminum in the crystal, and long sun or high heat can fade it. A large smoky quartz point often shows that color in uneven zones. Very even, inky black quartz is usually clear quartz irradiated in a lab, so look for brown, see-through edges. The smoky quartz guide has the details.
Spirit, lithium and aura quartz points
Spirit, lithium and aura quartz points each get their look a different way. Spirit quartz is amethyst or quartz covered in a second growth of tiny crystals. Lithium quartz is a trade name for quartz tinted lavender to gray by fine mineral inclusions. Rainbow aura quartz is real quartz with a thin film of metal bonded on in a vacuum chamber, so it is always labeled as coated.
What to look for in a large quartz crystal
Look at two things in a large quartz crystal: the tips and the faces. Tips chip, so check every termination for dings. Natural faces carry growth marks, and quartz prism faces often show fine horizontal lines called striations. Perfectly flat, glossy faces on every side usually mean the piece was cut and polished. Full mineral data is on Mindat's quartz page.
Quartz care
Quartz care is easy: at 7 on the Mohs scale, quartz is water safe and hard to scratch. Smoky quartz and amethyst, spirit quartz included, can fade in strong sun, so keep them off bright windowsills. Wipe aura quartz with a soft dry cloth, since scrubbing wears the coating.
Large Quartz Crystal for Sale FAQ
Is aura quartz real quartz?
Aura quartz is real quartz with a thin coating of metal, so it is labeled as coated rather than natural color.
How can you tell a natural quartz point from a polished one?
You can tell a natural quartz point from a polished one by its faces: natural faces show striations and growth marks, while polished faces are perfectly flat and glossy.
What makes quartz cloudy?
What makes quartz cloudy is millions of tiny fluid inclusions, pockets of water and gas trapped as the crystal grew, which scatter light.
